Olur Olur

Olur Olur is a 2014 Turkish comedy directed by Kerem Çakıroğlu. Many Turkish comedies are characterized by comedy and weird characters and this film is no exception. Here is what the film is about:

Plot Summary:

The protagonist of the story is Ali who is a young man with no purpose in life. He is lost in life with no goal and flounders without finding one. However, his life takes a turn for the better when he becomes an apprentice for a Shamanist herbalist. Here, he finds himself on a path fraught with comedy and even absurd situations. As Aj tells he is a doctor of herbal medicine, he is also involved in some other dramatic and life altering activities that test his patience and his integrity only to come back with surprising results.

Key Themes and Elements:

Comedy: The most striking aspect of Olur Olur is that it is a comedy film- though it may insult one’s intelligence. The humor is enriched by situational evocation, and even American cultural aspects, and these of the ‘Rifka’ culture which involves the use of ‘alternative medicine’ in traditional societies of Turkey.

Character Growth: Most of the time in the film, he is frustrated and is facing hurdles in his quest to make something of himself. From this perspective, it can fairly be said that Ali undergoes some changes in his character as the son of a narrator.

Cultural Elements: The documentary explores some aspects of chronic illness in Turkey- the method of treatment through plants. This particular method is presented in a humorous but exaggerated way. It showcases some facets of the life of Turks today and their shared perceptions of life in society through humor.

Romance: And, as is common with many of the comedy films, Ali’s adventures are not solely restricted to action, for there are a few touch of romance in this adventures that sees him in strange, funny and occasionally awkward circumstances.

Lighthearted Entertainment: Rather than seeking to instill the audience with powerful and tragic emotions, the slimming movie employs feel-good dramas only and is appropriate for clients willing to indulge in entertaining and practical picture with no drama to it.

Olur Olur is a great comedy film which captures the mundane side of Turkey and mixes it up with unusual humor, a great film for viewers who like situational comedies.
