While seeking a movie titled “Craze”, there is none which is common in popular culture; instead a low profile British horror film Craze was filmed in 1974 by Freddie Francis.
The protagonist is a crazed antique freak Neal Mottram played by Jack Palance. Mottram becomes irrationally attached to an African idol in his collection, thinking it to be a fountain of wealth and power that one must satiate with blood sacrifices. The camera occupies Rotman’s point of view as he becomes increasingly frustrated and violent, killing in order to sate the idol while the zealot police are hot on his heels.
This is more of a cult horror movie, combined with elements of ritual, insanity, and obsession.
