As climbing documentaries go, The Devil’s Climb which was released in 2024 is like none another in the wider genre of documentaries with great climbers, Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell at the center of the action. The duo is on a mission to scale the notorious 9,000 ft high Devil’s thumb, located in the wilderness of Alaska. The film directed by Renan Ozturk, captures the entire process beginning to end including a stunning 2600 mile bike, sail and trekking tour around the mountain.
The events in the documentary could have been simple , that same tension between Honnold and Caldwell. But it’s about more than that. It’s about two people, all of them somehow become best in the world and now plans to do several team tries protruding such as struggle for Caldwell with a comeback from severe achilles tendon injury. Besides that, the movie also shows the focus that is required and the tough situations they encounter as they try to climb one of the most catastrophic mountains in the North America.
