The Attacks of 26/11

The Attacks of 26/11 is an action thriller Indian movie directed by Ram Gopal Varma and produced in 2013 that is based on the 2008 events of the Mumbai attacks. The playing time is one hour and fifty-seven minutes, and the key cast includes Nana Patekar who plays Rakesh Maria, the Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime). The role of Ajmal Kasab, the sole terrorist who was captured during the attacks, is played by Sanjeev Jaiswal.

The plot starts with the terrorists who had come from Karachi to Mumbai on the date of November 26, 2008, and who had bifurcated into groups to coordinate for an attack on eminent sites including the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Leopold Cafe, CST station, and other places. This picture shows all the attacks commotion, violence, and terror shock by attaching the plot not only to the terrorists but also to all other kinds of victims, among them hotel employees and initial interventionists.

The film has received varied responses, with some critics taking sides for or against it. Some of them were on Nana Patekar’s side saying his performance was the backbone of the film. Others went for the critics towards the telling of the story and how it came out in totality. A good example is Subhash K. Jha from the Deccan Herald who rated the film 4 out of 5, while Rajeev Masand of News18 rated the film 1.5 stars and stated that it was a ‘cheap b-grade movie’ letting most of the critics going against the grain of the narrative features.

Maula Maula and Aatanki Aaye are a couple of songs on the soundtrack of this film. The songs have received a different appreciation even criticizing their role in the development of the film.
