Synopsis

Thallumaala, which means A Series of Fights, is a Malayalam action funny film that gives its audience a fun ride while showing colorful hooliganism that is chronically incoherent and hilarious in its execution and style. The movie is directed by Khalid Rahman, and features storytellws. In this case, it follows the character Wazim (Tovino Thomas) who is a carefree and fun loving guy and his love interest is Beepathu (Kalyani Priyadarshan), who works as a fashion model. They meet and fall in love, but their relationship is complicated by the fact that its set at a time when things are not going well. Their love is also marked by battles, several misunderstandings, and a whole lot of drama which ultimately leads to an absurd chain of events.

Set against a series of chaotic and disorganised battles between local gangs, the film’s fragmentary structure consists of a unidirectional account about Wazim pleading for reconciliation with Beepathu along with skirmishes involving his flamboyant rival Jamshi (Shine Tom Chacko). In what is an exhilarating experience, watch how action, rhythm, and weirdness are combined in a magical way and wonderful narratives unfold.

Personal Insights

Thallumaala comes as boost in Indian films who have always followed a particular script and never sought to deviate from it. The fragmentation of the film can during interactions be a distraction but with its editing and fight moulding it brings the level of the story. Tovino Thomas acting as Wazim is both great and obnoxious due to the chaos that reflects where one is in life. Kalyani Priyadarshan performs in a way as to give what is expected and more in embrace and grace of Beepathu.

Another of the strongest elements of this film is its satire, which is smoothly dripped into the story intertwining absurdity with strong illustrations of toxic masculinity and social media. The jarring score synergises with the picture creating a modern action-comedy which also a musical.
