Swing Vote

Swing Vote, released in 1999 has a different story compared to the 2008 film that was directed by Michael McCullers.

Plot Summary

The focus is on Samantha (played by Rachael Leigh Cook) a fresh graduate student who gets her chance to vote during a very tight political contest. When her ballot gets mislaid within the election offices, she gets drawn into the election fever as the political stakes exceed what most citizens imagined possible.

Themes

The film deals with the issues of democracy with regards to the right to vote and political activities, in a blend of comedy and romance interspersed in the storyline.

Reception

Swing Vote 1999 is eclipsed by the 2008 remake in popularity, but it occupies a niche in discourse on the electoral exercise and the need to engage more actively in democratic processes.
