Hearing Is Believing

Hearing Is Believing is a great documentary film by Lorenzo DeStefano that tells the story of Rachel Flowers, a 15 weeks preterm child who was affected by loss of eyesight shortly after her birth. For people who have sight challenges this will not be easily grasped however, she showcased the ability to recreate entire songs beginning from the age of two, developing a unique ear for music. It is even reported she was able to play Bach based fugues at such a tender age].

The film depicts Rachel for two years and her efforts as a young composer and musician. Not just the display of such raw talent but the film also depicts growing up in a family and their modesty in Oxnard California, within a working class family. The narration of the film is made more captivating by Rachel’s love towards music, her own background, which is turned into the central theme of the film depicting stories of resilience, artistic creativity and family values.

The film includes musicians Dweezil Zappa, Keith Emerson, and Arturo Sandoval who are quite famous which surely adds to the depiction of Rachels artistic context.
