Broken Blade: Enclave of Lamentations

Break Blade 6: Doukoku no Toride, or its official title, Enclave of Lamentations: The Symphony of the Eye of the Shattered Sword – Mutaion, is the sixth and last entry in the Break Blade anime film series. Released on June 2011, it completes the story arc based on Yunosuke Yoshinaga’s manga.

Plot Overview

Towards the end of this film, the focus of the narrative centers on Rygart Arrow and his group’s allies who tried to repel the forces of Borcuse. After finding Rygart, Baldr and his fellows take Delphine back home. But Borcuse indeed gives the order to attack the capital without waiting for other components of his army to come together. Breathtaking engagements are presented, such as the confrontation of Rygart with Borcuse, character growth and other October conflict development logically leading to this resolution\.

Visuals and Soundtrack

Some critics have particularly praised the animation in Enclave of Lamentations for detailed backgrounds and nice mech animations. The battle sequences are crafted well and provide a dynamic presence that adds to the dramatic flair. They were also able to complement the visuals quite effectively with the score. Music and sound are important to a good film and they indeed kept the audiences immersed throughout the parts they featured. This depends on the viewer’s subjective taste, as some critics felt that the acting, especially Rygart’s, was mostly standard and lacked emotional depth.

Reception

The film has generated mixed responses from the critics, some of whom pointed out the good aspects such as the battle sequences and the visuals whereas others were critical of the storytelling process beginning with the characterization of main characters such as Rygart and Borcuse. A number of critics observed that the concluding film did not quite offer the resolutions or transformations for the characters that one would expect from the last or final installment of the series.
