Bheema

Bheema is the sixteenth film and fifth in distribution of 2008 Indian Tamil action film directed by Lingusamy. The film features Vikram in the leading role alongside Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj and Sayaji Shinde in supporting roles.

Plot Summary

The protagonist of Bheema is a dark yet fierce figure who goes by the name Venkatesh ( Prakash Raj) who is an imposing figure and a gangster in Chennai and so out of devotion and fealty towards him, brings himself into the struggling character of Bheema ( Vikram). Following his better noble values, Bheema ventures into the dark side of the underworld but searches for a purpose for himself.

In due course of the story, Bheema starts losing out control over himself and fights Venkatesh’s rival gangs which include a mother son duo and a female gangster whose power seems to supersede Bheema’s. His love and friendship with people around him is abused, giving rise to heavy action and melodrama. It is a mix of love, friendship and betrayal and traces Bheema’s life filled with struggles.

Themes

Kareena also has focused on themes of DUeng as vengeance.-

Loyalty and Friendship: Central part of the story is the relationship between Bheema and Venkatesh including the dark themes of undivided loyalty in criminal fraternity.

Morality Conflict: The film depicts the eternal fight between good and evil when Bheema is forced to explore the region’s gray areas.

Reception

Bheema was received with mixed reviews from the critics. Although Vikram’s performance and actions sequences did receive praises, some critiques were focused on the narrative and pacing being rather bland. Still, it found considerable audience and is remembered for its music and action.
