Dani de la Orden directed *A House on Fire, *originally released as *Casa en Flames, *which is expected to be released in 2024. The humour in this film is combined with a unique Spanish landscape. The events unfold from the perspective of Montse, a woman played by Emma Vilarasau, who brings her estranged relatives to their family home on the cliff where the family property can be potentially sold. She hopes to use the proceeds from the sale to place her sick mother in an institution, however, upon arriving there, she learns that her mother has already died and does not inform the rest of the family.
The film also stars Enric Auquer as Montse’s son David, Maria Rodríguez Soto as her daughter Julia, and Alberto San Juan as the ex-husband Carlos. As the various members of the family are present during the same conversation, things degenerate quickly as all the hidden truths come out and all the unresolved issues are brought to the fore which pegs the entire duration of the weekend against a backdrop of funny scenes and heated exchanges between the family’ members. .
The picture successfully combines humour with conflict about love and responsibilities within a family, which makes the film interesting to watch on different levels of understanding. ‘A House on Fire’ is coping well with exposure at numerous film festivals and is singled out for its sharp lines and strong cast.
