Reflections
Nankana is an emotional story worth restorying on the level of love and even sacrifice in the course of one of the most corridors of the turbulent time there is in South Asia. Gurdas Maan has single handedly carried the film on his shoulders giving the role of Karam singh a never dying and warm persistence to family and people across the globe. In the present time when the theme of the film about inter faith marriage and an unyielding spirit to fight together is so timely and appropriate.
Manjit Maan has been tactful with the direction as she does not overpower with passionate feelings but lets them and the historical facts to do their own work. The visual representation of people in the film changes from idealistic rural scenes of Punjab to tragic and tragic creations of partition.
Cultural importance
Nankana dares to illustrate the commons that everybody has regardless of religion or culture. Putting it in historical perspective, it offers bitter lessons about the price that insularity has, but more importantly about love that time cannot erase. The film also honors the ideals of Sikh selfless service inscribed in Karam Singh.
When it comes to the stories told in Nankana, there are roles of love, family and people that are definite exceptions that should be considered essential to Punjabi cinema and the enthusiasts of historical pieces.
